In like a lion... Time to tame those apple trees
Spring is definitely headed our way. On March 20th we will pass the vernal equinox, and we are getting more and more sunlight every day.
March is a great time to get out and prune your apple trees. Annual pruning can help maintain the health, shape, and productivity of a tree. And, with annual maintenance we can typically avoid having to make major pruning adjustments to trees every couple of years.
Pruning while the trees are in dormancy is best, and March is a good time to get out there and do it.
Here are some resources for pruning apple trees from Montana Extension, and a three part video series from the University of Minnesota Extension.
